Obituary of Therese Irene McLaughlin

DUDLEY , MA - Therese Irene (Mulcahy) McLaughlin age 90, slipped beyond the veil on Friday Jan. 29,2016. She was born on March 18, 1925 in Sudbury, VT to John Lawrence and Rose (Tully) Mulcahy. She is survived by: her daughters Maureen McLaughlin and husband Gary of Waltham, VT, Patricia Mathison of Rutland, MA, Susan Potvin and husband Tom of Holden, MA; Eight grandchildren, Rachel,Meghan,Jeremy,Alexis,Brandon,Kaitlyn,Tyler and Nicholas. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth, her brothers Joseph and Charles Mulcahy, her sister Mary Engelhardt, and her former husband Robert B. McLaughlin. Therese grew up on a dairy farm in Vermont, and never lost her love for the countryside and a glass of cold milk. She settled in Worcester MA in the mid 1950's, and spent many summers with her children on Cape Cod where she discovered beach plums and blackberries to make cordials, jellies and pies. She was a reader, a writer, an artist and an exceptional Scrabble player - using her keen English skills for the win. She graduated from Brandon High School, and then Castleton Teachers College, where she began her teaching career. She later taught in Vergennes, VT and the Worcester County, MA area. A lifelong learner, she received her Master's Degree from Anna Maria College in 1982. Guided by her strong Catholic faith, she served as a Eucharistic minister in several parishes. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday Feb. 1 at 11 AM at Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel 33 Schofield Avenue in Dudley, MA. Private burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Webster, MA.
