Dudley - Thomas J. Monaco, Sr., 85, died Wednesday, May 28 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge with his loving family at his side.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Roseanne(Mangan) Monaco. three sons: Thomas J. Monaco Jr. and his wife Deborah of Dudley and their children Lauren and Liza , A great granddaughter Kadynce.
William Monaco of Southbridge and his children Alyssa and Anthony .Paul Monaco of Woodstock and his children Elizabeth, Mario and Lorenzo. Two daughters: Darlene Marcucci and her husband Mario of Southbridge and their children Sergio, Carisa and Guida. Lisa Bodreau and her husband Steven of Quinebaug and their children Michael ,Jillian and Madison .
He also leaves 4 siblings Beatrice Taglione, James Monaco and Angelo Monaco all of Southbridge and Jacqueline Bonavita of Springfield. Pre-deceased by Larry Monaco and Angeline Stawiecki .
He was born and raised in Southbridge ,the son of Felix and Celia (Guilia) Monaco. He graduated from Cole Trade School .He worked as a molder at the A.O. and some 30 years for the Mass Turnpike retiring as a Foreman. He participated in softball as a semi-pro pitcher for the American Legion League along side teammate Rocky Marciano .
He was a former Park Commissioner in Southbridge. Tommy was a founding member of the Henry St. Field. Tommy was active in local politics he was co-district campaign chairman for former Governor Francis Belloti and Governor Edward King .
He was a active supporter and coach of Dudley Little League. A member of St. Stephen church and the YMCA. One of his greatest pleasures was attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting and school events and celebrating their accomplishments. Tommy looked forward to spending winters in Florida but couldn't wait to get home to his family . We will miss his daily phone calls to make sure we were all doing fine.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday June 1, from 4 to 8 PM at Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley His funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday June 2 at 11:00 AM in St. Stephens Church, Corner Of Route 197 & 131, Quinebaug. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to St. Stephens Renovation fund PO box 222 or Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Dept. P.O.
