Obituary of David G. Butler

DUDLEY - David G. Butler, 75, passed over to be with his Lord on November 27, 2012 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He leaves his wife of 36 years, Priscilla A.(Gifford) Butler, a brother, William H. and his wife, Helen (Samson) Butler of Georgia Shores, VT, three daughters; Deanne E. Lins and her husband Tony of Austin, TX, Carolyn J. McMahan of Rockland, ME, Jennifer J. Hatch and her husband Stuart of Newburg, ME, a son; Randall E. Butler of Rockland, ME, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildrenBorn in New Bedford, MA in 1936, the son of William P. and Pauline (Harmon) Butler, he lived in Natick, MA, Belfast, ME, Oxford, MA and moved to Dudley in 1970. He worked in several positions at American Optical Corp. from 1966 until 1998 when he retired and became an independent consultant specializing in Environmental Management. In addition to a BMSE from Maine Maritime Academy, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Clark University and an MBA from Nichols College. Dave served as a volunteer on many boards and commissions for the Town of Dudley including the Recycling Committee, Solid Waste Management Committee, Cable TV Committee, Information Technology Commission, Finance, Appropriation and Advisory Board, Police Rules and Regulations Committee and the Dudley Historical Commission. He was also active with the Black Tavern Historical Society of Dudley, serving on its Board of Directors and seeking grant funding to complete the restoration of the Barn and its Annex. During his tenure, the Barn and Annex achieved listing on the National Registry of Historic Places. Also, due to the efforts of many volunteers and excellent craftsmen, all structural work on the Barn and its Annex was completed by the summer of 2012. The facility is now available and in use as a venue for many exhibits and events As a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, he served on mission trips and, in its Stephen Ministry Program, providing aid to those with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Dave was also a Master Mason (AF&AM) for over 50 years. The family is very grateful for the services provided by the employees of VNA Care Network & Hospice, especially to his nurse, Lynne, and his home health aid, Pat. Their dedication to providing sincere, palliative home care was truly God sent. Although there will be no calling hours or funeral, a memorial service is planned for December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, CT.. Arrangements are being coordinated through Bartel Funeral Home, 33 Schofield Ave, Dudley, MA 01571 and disposition of cremation remains is being handled by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Black Tavern Historical Society, P.O. Box 143, Dudley, MA 01571 or; the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT 06281. .
