.George R. Bayer, 83, formerly of McGovern Lane, Webster, MA died peacefully on Monday, November 15, 2021 after an illness. Mr. Bayer was born March 2, 1938 in Webster, MA. He was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Schaeffer) Bayer. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Janet M. Gregoire, in 2012.
George is survived by: one sister, Linda Chung of Honolulu, HI and one brother, Kenneth Bayer of Webster; sister-in-law Pauline Norton of Webster; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Clayton Bayer and sisters Janice Tupaj and Beverly Bayer.
He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1956. George served in the National Guard. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4 from Medway for more than fifty years. George worked for various companies operating heavy equipment with Local 4 and retired in 1996.
George and Janet loved to travel together. They enjoyed many cruises in the Caribbean and Alaska along with bus trips to Canada. Other fond vacation memories included several visits to Disney World and to all the National Parks throughout the United States. George was an avid New England sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics.
The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, November 20 at Zion Lutheran Church, 70 Main St., Oxford, MA with Rev Michael Bastian officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Webster. Calling hour from 9 to 10 am Saturday morning at Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel 33 Schofield Ave. Dudley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
