Obituary of Bozena Bessie Puchovsky

Bozena "Bessie" Puchovsky, 81, of Stow, MA died peacefully after a long illness Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Emerson Hospital in Concord with family by her side. Bozena was predeceased by her husband, Melicher "Mel" Puchovsky in 2011 and her two sisters: Viera and Anna who remained in Slovakia. She is survived by one daughter: Sylvia Messier and her husband Andrew of Stow, MA and two sons: Miloslav "Milosh" Puchovsky and his wife Debi of Mendon, MA and Roman Puchovsky of Georgetown, KY; and six dear grandchildren: Angelica "Jelly", Noah, Gabrielle, Lucas, Emilia, and Sydney. She was born October 24, 1941 in a small village in Slovakia. She is the daughter of the late Ludevit and Emilia (Hanus) Mihalik. She graduated from the Economic University of Bratislava with a bachelor's degree in business. With Mel, they immigrated to Dudley, MA in 1969. Bozena was good at math and put her mind to learning new computer languages, skills she put to use as a computer programmer at American Optical in Southbridge, MA for over 25 years all while raising her 3 children. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, knitter and "cheerleader" for her children's and grandchildren's sport games. She always enjoyed a card game of Canasta and loved going on walks, from hikes in the mountains to nice evening strolls after dinner. Bozena's happiest moments were in the kitchen making traditional Slovak dishes and desserts for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who looked forward to her special Christmas treats all year long. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 22 at St. Anthony Of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Rd., Dudley. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Of Padua Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 21 from 5 to 7 pm at Bartel Funeral Home, 33 Schofield Avenue, Dudley, MA.
