North Grosvenordale CT- Thomas J. Chiras, 75, of 447 Riverside Dr., died Saturday, November 17 in UMASS Memorial-University Campus, Worcester after a short illness. His wife of 50 years, Rita(Cazeault) Chiras predeceased him in 2004. He leaves two daughters: Sharon J. Erickson of Plattsburg, NY, Pamela J. Masse of Georgia, VT five sons: Thomas M. Chiras of Hubert, NC, Bruce A Chiras of Brooklyn Ct , James D. Chiras of Hubert, NC, Brian K Chiras of North Grosvenordale Ct. and Kevin G. Chiras of San Diego Ca. A sister Pat Cheever of Thompson Ct . 14 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church a 32 year member of the American Legion Post 67 and a life member of Valley Springs Sportsman's Club. Tom was an avid fisherman and A devoted father he loved spending time with his family . He was born in Fisherville, MA, the son of the late Francis and Gloria Chiras. He served in the Marine Corps. for 20 years serving in Korea and Vietnam he retired a Master Sgt. .Tom worked many years as a central office Technician. for Verizon Co. before retiring in 1995. His funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday Nov. 21 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., North Grosvenordale. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday Nov.20 from 5 to 8 PM in Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley.
